What We Do

We are dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children. Below are examples of activities listed in our three main areas of projects.

Promoting Patriotism

  • Support veteran programs hosted by the Salisbury VA Health Care System
  • Support and participate in wreath-laying ceremony for Wreaths Across America
  • Observe Veterans Day and participate in the Veterans Day Parade
  • Participate in naturalization ceremonies
  • Participate in Charlotte-based Honor Flights
  • Participate in the Commemoration of the Anniversary of the Battle of Cowan’s Ford
  • Recognize community businesses and non-profit groups who properly display the American flag
  • Prepare care packages for active military personnel
  • Recognize distinguished citizens for their military service

We delivered bedding and toiletries donated by chapter members in support of the Salvation Army’s Center of Hope for women veterans and their families.

Our chapter participates in Charlotte’s Honor Flight and cheers for veterans as they return from Washington, DC.

Members join forces with other Charlotte chapters to celebrate newly sworn-in citizens at a naturalization ceremony.

Historic Preservation

  • Mark graves of local American Revolutionary War Patriots
  • Support the National Society for the preservation of NSDAR buildings
  • Participate in local historic programs, tours, and events
  • Plan a history-filled trip every other year

Chapter members enjoyed a trip to historic Williamsburg, Virginia.

Education

  • Present Constitution Week programs in elementary schools
  • Participate in Bells Across America on September 17 to honor the signing of the U. S. Constitution
  • Sponsor American History Essay Contests for students in fifth to eighth grades
  • Sponsor Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) Awards to cadets in high schools
  • Sponsor local high school seniors in the DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest
  • Support Crossnore Communities for Children
  • Participate in the American History Book Club for chapter members
  • Present American Revolutionary War history to fourth-grade students at local schools

Every year our chapter awards a JROTC Bronze medal to a high school senior at partner high schools.

Our book club had a special event with David Fleming, author of the book “Who’s Your Founding Father”.

Each year, our chapter presents DAR Good Citizens Awards to several local high school seniors.
